Fiber-optical network of Krasnoyarsk Scientific Centre SB RAS
With the support of the NATO scientific program grant received by Institute of Biophysics SB RAS a project of the fibre-optical flow line (FOFL), connecting the organizations of Krasnoyarsk Scientific Centre SB RAS, was created. In 2001 the cabining was carried out. At the end of 2002 the termination work was finished, the terminal active equipment was purchased and the network was placed in operation. The advantages of FOFL are as follows:
- Due to a single-mode fibre-optical cable used at laying there is a possibility to increase the carrying capacity from 100 Mbit/sec planned at first stage (standard FastEthernet 100Base-FX) up to 1 Gbit/sec and to replace the active equipment easily.
- Weldless joints of the FOFL parts used in the buildings allow to build various physical topologies of FOFL by means of simple overcommutation of the fibres.
- A realized logic topology of the network (the star) provides an individual connection of each building with the central switching node. This scheme allows to use the whole pass band of the network.
The existing stock of fibres allows to create reserve and alternative communication links and to use this FOFL for developing the telephone network of Akademgorodok.
Two-year experience of using the FOFL parts has shown their high reliability and operational qualities: not a failure has happened because of the deterioration of the fibre optical properties or the fault of the active equipment.
