The Institute was founded on the 1st of January, 1975 as the Computational Center of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of USSR (KCC SB АS USSR).

In 2016 the Institute was included in the Federal Research Center «Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences» (FRC KSC SB RAS) as a subdivision «Institute of Computational Modelling of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences» (ICM SB RAS).

Director of the Institute is Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Professor V. V. Shaidurov.

The Institute carries out researches in conformity with the basic direction «Computer Information Modelling of Complex Processes and Systems». It includes three sections:

• Mathematical modelling and analysis of natural, social and technological processes by means of high-performance computing systems of new generations;
• Theoretical and experimental support for the development of perspective space technology and engineering;
• Development of the information-management systems based on the integration of data processing technologies, GIS-modelling and decision support
